Buses: For the areas not covered by the MRT system, there is an extensive bus system that interconnects every point in Taipei. Payment sometimes is upon boarding, sometimes upon exiting. Depending on the length and route, some buses could require payment upon both boarding and exiting. Riders of the city MRT system are able to use their MRT passes on buses, making the bus system effectively an extension of the MRT system. The pass, known as an Easy Card, contain credits that are deducted each time a ride is taken. The Easy Card, Taipei's equivalent to Hong Kong's Octopus Card, is extremely convenient since it is read via proximity sensory panels on buses and in MRT stations, thus eliminating the need for the passenger to remove the card from his or her wallet or purse.
The city bus fare is NT$12-24 depending on length of journey. The Taipei Main Station , located in the Zhongzheng District in Downtown Taipei.
Taxis: Taxi fares are NT$50 for the first 1.65 km. (NT$15 is added to the final fare shown on meter), and NT$5 for each additional 350 meters. While waiting in traffic the fare increase by NT$5 every three minutes. Between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am taxi meters add an extra 20 percent to the fare. An NT$10 surcharge is added for calling a taxi by phone, or for putting luggage in the trunk. A tip to those non-Chinese speakers, most drivers speak only Chinese, so have hotel personnel write both your destination and your hotel's name and address in Chinese.
MRT: The Mass Rapid Transit, which is now known as Metro Taipei,has added a light rail system together with its traditional metro. Taipei Main Station is the largest Taiwanese railway station, and is connected to the MRT system.

Airports: All international flights arrive and depart in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in the Taoyuan County. Domestic flights are serviced at the Songshan Airport, located at the heart of the city.
